Philosophy & Methodology

Overview

EWAS pupilsFrom the very first lesson, the English With A Smile (EWAS) method encourages pupils to listen to English and to speak it as it is spoken by native speakers. The program’s goal is to help children produce language.

The original, exclusive EWAS materials — songs, rhymes, games, dialogues, storybooks, activity books and props — combine to create a full, rich language experience.

Every word the pupils learn has been taught (and reinforced) in an oral-aural context.

  • The songs include the exact words and structures taught in the storybooks. They provide an opportunity for continuous review of the language taught through natural repetition. And they entertain young children with their lively tunes.
  • The storybooks create the context for teaching new words and give meaning to the language being taught.

EWAS uses a unique “two-rule” approach to reading.

1. The same letters and letter combinations can make different sounds.
2. Different letters and letter combinations can make the same sound.
