Prof. Alatis“Of the multitude of English-language programs designed for young learners on the market today, it is rare to find one that is not only based on sound pedagogical principle but is also designed to enable teachers to put into practice these principle in a clear, ‘user friendly’ manner. But this is precisely what English With A Smile has accomplished through its comprehensive learning program that should bring ‘smiles’ to young learners while providing teachers with a set of guidelines for best-practices in teaching English to young children.”

James E. Alatis, Ph.D.

Recommendation from an EWAS Teacher in China

Dear Mr. JOEL TAL,
I’ve been working in China for 6 years teaching English for kids, 3 of which I worked with EWAS, and I didn’t experience a better curriculum than the one we use.
In this program the kids learn English explicitly because we teach them through playing, singing and telling a story. The kids are learning by having fun and that’s what kids look for -- to have fun.
EWAS songs are not a smoke in the air, the kids get more than one benefit singing the songs: joy and useful language, more important the kids learn the usage of the lyrics, through the story lines. Another benefit: it improves the kids ability to say and hear complete, long sentences.
EWAS stories are told by characters the kids love, like the bear family. When you like someone, you like to hear what he/she says, see the kid’s reaction when you ask them, who wants to hear sister speaking? Then see the results – with a little help –when you ask them, who wants to tell me what did sister say? Then you will find out that the real teacher for the kids is the story CD they take home with them. The kids learn how to repeat after the CD ,the kids could learn by themselves. In other ways I would say an EWAS student has a 24-hour teacher. And the EWAS teacher will become the director who directs the kids to the right way of using the CD to learn ,which makes his job easier and easier, he would be more comfortable as he won’t use much effort teaching new language.
EWAS activity book is another teaching approach, the kids love the most because they are doing things using their hands, like cutting, pasting, coloring ,making puppets -- etc. it supports the understanding of the language introduced. And I see the activity book as a variety of tests to see the progress on the kids, which helps the teacher in teaching, as it will direct him to the next step, reviewing or introducing more new material.
What I love about the program is that the language is connected, and develops the kid’s mind. Not like the other books used in different schools, they mess the kid’s mind, cause at one level you teach them things which are completely not related to the next level, the aim of teaching is not to make the kid work as a dictionary, EWAS uses a lot of sentences based on the new words the kids learn,so  the kids don’t become dictionaries, and they know the use of the words, which enables them to create their own sentences in the future. Now look at the other case, in which the kids learn a lot of words (dictionary) but no use. Do you think those kids will be able to say a complete sentence in the future?!
EWAS songs and story lines are related, which results in a complete understanding to the language introduced, by the end of each chapter you will feel relaxed, cause the tension every one has when introducing – teaching new material will vanish gradually, regardless to how difficult the material is. “Who laughs in the end is the winner."
As a teacher I had fun myself working with EWAS, it directed me to the right way of enjoying teaching cause it’s very important to like what are you doing. If it’s relaxing, fun and creative, then why not do it?
  Yours sincerely,
  Mike (Ahmed Nawas)

Recommendation from an EWAS Teacher in South Korea

I would like to tell you a little about my experience with EWAS. My name is Neil Spinney and I came to work at Guri EWAS in South Korea, about one and a half years ago. Since my arrival, I have been treated with kindness and respect. I have equally been impressed with the EWAS program. As any good teacher can tell you, it takes time and energy to do a good job. From my experiences here, I can tell you it helps to have well structured, and fun program.
I am glad my decision was EWAS when I decided to leave Calgary, Alberta, Canada in December of 2000. I have enjoyed the many experiences through Bobby English and The Bears. The excitement of The Reading Express, and Surprise At Little Bear Lake programs.
I am impressed by the EWAS International people, who are committed to providing a quality English program.
Thank You, EWAS, for the great little Korean children, parents, and friends, I met along the way. The training workshop provides a good opportunity for learning the EWAS programs, enjoying the culture, and making new friends. Many of those friends are still with EWAS Korea, and I tip my hat to you in respect. I will always have many favorite memories of the kids. Also a few extra special ones, that became favorites while progressing through the dynamic EWAS programs.
