EWAS has developed the oral-aural preparation and prediction process. This process prepares the pupil in the pre-reading stage for the task of learning to read.
-
EWAS has written the original storybooks for each of its reading programs. The storybook is central to the program and teaches vocabulary and structures in the context of an intrinsically interesting story. The children identify easily with the setting and characters in the storybook. The story and story soundtrack (with special sound effects) are a major motivating factor in the pupil’s desire to read.
-
EWAS also developed the EWAS reading strips to provide a transitional stage in reading between reading individual words and reading a story.
The reading strips break down the story into bite-sized pieces that are easier for the children to read. The reading strips are less intimidating than an entire paragraph or page of reading. When the children have mastered the reading of the reading strips they can confidently and successfully read the relevant section of the storybook.
